In Xanadu did Kubla Kahn
a stately pleasure-dome decree:
where Alph, the sacred river, ran
through caverns measureless to man
down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
with walls and towers were girdled round:

Decoration with a history is always better than decoration for decoration's sake in my book. In this case they have the added benefit of looking really good too. Brilliant!
I REALLY like that. It looks great--how clever of you to have done this.
And I agree with Malmesbury. Case in point, I have 2 small boxes that my dad made from 100-year-old wooden slats that were torn from my grandmother's house during a renovation. One of them holds one of the handmade nails from the original construction.
